Creating an Engaging Welcome Email Sequence For Your Target Audience

Written by Liz Slyman | Feb 24, 2022 5:26:00 AM

Your business is up and running and you are ready to have potential clients and customers get in-the-know about all that you have to offer. Your email subscriber list is an important part of getting the proper exposure for your business. This list should be compiled of accurately targeted subscribers who have an interest in your goods and services.

Why? Because you will be sending out a welcome email sequence to the readers, and targeting it to the proper audience is the best way to pique and hold their interest.

Target Your Email Audience

One of the most important parts of sending your welcome email sequence is tailoring your message to your audience. No matter how good your message or offer is, sending it to the wrong audience won't generate any business.

Not everyone who signs up or opts in may have the initial interest. But by using lists that are highly targeted, you will have a more specific group who actually wants to receive your information and wants to put it to good use.

Some ways to find your target audience are:

Creating list segmentation based on demographics: This opens the door to learn about age, gender, occupation, location, etc.

Create a list built on a certain niche. Think of it this way, if you are trying to sell to everyone, you end up selling to no one. You want to create the most specific audience possible.

Now that you have a better idea of who to target, let’s discuss what the welcome email sequence is all about.

What is a Welcome Email Sequence?

A welcome email sequence is a series of emails sent out to this list of targeted subscribers. These may be authors, bloggers, newsletter creators or even non-profits…all of whom should have genuine interest in what you can provide them.

Each email in the welcome sequence will serve its own purpose, from a general thank you and welcome to what they can expect from your business. You may also include an invitation to connect via social media or surveys and quizzes to get to know your audience even better.

Be concise, and create content that makes customers feel as if you are speaking directly to them. If you’re not comfortable with writing email copy, you can hire a copywriting agency or take copywriting courses to hone your skills.

Benefits of a Welcome Email Sequence

You may wonder why you can't send one welcome email with all of the abovementioned things in it. Do you really need an entire sequence? The short answer is yes, you do, and here’s why.

Rather than one email to a new reader, you are making an ongoing connection and building a rapport via these emails. This type of consistent engagement helps build trust in your brand and opens the door to more opportunities.

Below are the recommended emails to include in a welcome sequence and what each should entail.

Thank the Subscriber

This first email is all about gratitude! Your subscriber has a genuine interest in what you do and thanking them for getting on board is the first step in opening the communication dialogue.

An example of this script could be:

Welcome Aboard, xxx!

We’re thrilled to have you as part of our ever-growing audience of authors. Be on the lookout for all kinds of invaluable information regarding the services we provide and how to best incorporate your talent and project needs with our team. Thanks for signing up and we’ll be in touch soon!

Until next time,

Expectations

The next email should let the reader know what they can expect from your emails. If you offer any promos, coupons, or exclusive information available only to subscribers, be sure to mention this. It will give them a sense of exclusivity and keep their interest and peak their curiosity as to what is to come.

An example of this script could be:

Greetings xxx!

We’re checking in to let you know we’ve got tons of exciting news about the blogosphere coming your way. From new promotions and offers to exclusive information available only to you. It’s time to bring your blog content to the next level with professional tips, tricks and more…and we’ve got you covered!

Invitation to Connect

Social media is a staple of proper marketing and communications these days. In this email, invite the subscriber to connect online to any social media platforms for your business. Not only will it build your following and online presence, but it will keep them informed about up and coming things regarding your business and services.

An example of this script could be:

Getting to Know your Contacts

Since you have already targeted your audience, this email should get more personal and specific with the subscriber. Hearing their feedback or about their interests can be done by inviting them to take a short survey. This will also help you, the business owner, hone in on the needs and wants of your audience, making the material you publish more likely to be read and lead to more business.

An example of this script could be:

Let’s Get to Know Each Other!

Now that you’ve learned a little bit about us, we can’t wait to hear about you! We truly appreciate your thoughts and feedback. Please take a moment to complete the short survey at the link below and give us the scoop!

Until Next time,
