Why You Need to Collect Leads

Published: | By Emilie Murphy

Why do you need to collect leads? Quite simply, if you forget about collecting leads you forget about business growth.

When someone lands on your website, they’re considered a website visitor. They usually don’t become a lead until they’ve given you their contact information, or given you some way of qualifying them.

While it’s important to drive visitors, or traffic, to your website, it’s vital that you have a way of moving them down your sales funnel.

When a visitor first finds your website, they’re in the initial ‘Awareness’ phase of the funnel:

You want to move them down to the consideration, and then conversion pieces. As your visitors digest the information on your site, they start moving into the ‘Consideration’ phase where they’re trying to assess if your product or service is right for them. They’ll do this by looking at your homepage, your ‘About Us’ page, assessing your features, pricing and reading customer testimonials or reviews. On that first visit they may not yet be ready to convert or purchase.

That’s where lead collection comes in. You want to collect contact information from your website visitors who are still in that ‘Consideration’ phase so that you can nurture them and move them down the funnel and convert them into a buyer. They’ve shown interest in your business, and it’s important to capture their contact information before they leave your website, otherwise you may lose them forever.

Every lost lead is lost revenue, and that really adds up over time.

The most effective piece of information you can collect from them is likely their email address. Email marketing can have a whopping 4400% return on investment. Take a second to let that sink in! It’s more effective than social media, which has only a 0.6% engagement rate compared with roughly 23% for email. It’s very much worth investing in collecting email addresses and creating a solid email nurturing campaign.

Don’t miss out on the opportunity to convert your website visitors into buyers and implement a lead collection strategy today!
